Assessment process

The assessment process is outlined below.

1. Get information

Our helpful and friendly staff will provide you with information about the assessment and the relevant documentation you need to proceed with your application. We will provide you with a personalised service to meet your needs and will help you with a self assessment guide, application forms and fee information. We will also assist you with ideas for evidence to put in your portfolio to submit with your application.

Contact us on +61 3 9655 4826 or 4815

2. Submit your portfolio of evidence for assessment

A qualified assessor will review the evidence you provide with your application and will contact you to discuss your assessment.

During this discussion, your assessor will:

  • advise you if further evidence is required
  • arrange a time and date to conduct your assessment
  • arrange a venue for the assessment
  • explain what your assessment will involve.

3. Participate in the assessment - interview and/or practical assessment

In addition to the portfolio of evidence that you submit with your application you will be asked to attend an assessment session with an assessor. This may involve a detailed interview, a visit to your workplace, a practical assessment conducted at a workshop or a combination of all of these. The assessment will give you the opportunity to demonstrate your skills and knowledge of the occupation.

For assessments in trade occupations, you may need to bring suitable clothing, protective gear and any tools necessary to demonstrate your skills. Your assessor will advise you of the requirements.

4. Receive assessment result and certificate

If you are successful in meeting all of the requirements you will receive a nationally recognised Australian qualification in your occupation and a record of the units of competency you have attained.

If you do not meet all of the requirements, you will receive a Statement of Attainment recording the units of competency you have attained. You can then come back at a later stage to be reassessed and gain your qualification after gaining more experience or undertaking further training.
