Points Advice for trade occupations

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) introduced the new Points Test for certain skilled migration visas on 01 July 2011. VETASSESS can issue you with a Points Advice letter in support of your claims for qualifications and/or employment. Points Advice is an opinion only, DIAC will consider this advice when assessing your eligibility for points.

The advice is an opinion of:

  • the comparative level of your qualifications against the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF)
  • employment which has been undertaken in the nominated or closely related occupation in the 10 years prior to your application to VETASSESS.

Skills Assessment vs Points Advice

The Points Advice process requires that you have successfully completed a Skills Assessment before VETASSESS can consider you application for Points Advice. A successful Skills Assessment is not a guarantee that you will meet the DIAC Points Test requirements.

Skills Assessment Summary

A Skills Assessment will determine whether you are able to work in Australia at the required skill level for your nominated occupation.
