Re-assessment, appeals & feedback

If you disagree with your trade skill assessment outcome, there are a few different options available to you. You can:

It is strongly advised that you undertake the review and/or re-assessment stage prior to lodging an appeal.

Step 1 - Review

If you want more information or do not agree with the assessment decision, submit an application for review.

We will conduct a paper-based review of the assessment outcome. You will be provided with an explanation of why the assessment decision was made.

Step 2 - Reassessment

If you wish to apply for a re-assessment, you submit a re-assessment form along with the correct fee. You must submit a reassessment application within 12 months of receipt of written notification of an unsuccessful outcome.

If the skills gaps identified during the initial assessment process are unable to be addressed within this time frame and/or if a reassessment is not requested within this timeframe, you will be required to reapply for a skills assessment.

Step 3 - Appeal

If you have undertaken a review or re-assessment and are still not satisfied with the outcomes, you have the opportunity to request an appeal by submitting an appeal form, along with a fee of AUD$400.00.

Your appeal will be investigated by a panel, and you will be notified of the outcome in writing within 30 working days from receipt of the appeal. If your appeal is successful, you will be refunded the appeal fee.

Acknowledgement will be sent within 5 working days informing you of the person allocated to investigate your complaint. A complaint investigation form will be completed to record findings and recommendations. This will then formulate the written response to be issued within 10 working days.

All documentation will be filed in accordance with the VETASSESS Complaints/Feedback Handling Policy and complaint procedures consistent with the Standards for National VET Regular (NVR) Registered Training Organisations.
