Electrician, Educator, Assessor: Michael’s Journey from Papua New Guinea to Melbourne

Meet Michael: a journey from skilled migrant electrician, to VETASSESS assessor shaping Australia’s trade workforce.

Michael Nuestro migrant electrician to skills assesor

Michael's career began in Papua New Guinea where he worked as an electrician and vocational education teacher. With years of hands-on experience, he migrated to Australia, driven by a clear goal of a better future for his family.

The process was challenging, the skills assessment required extensive paperwork and persistence.

“I felt a mix of excitement and uncertainty,” Michael said, "but staying focused on my goal kept me motivated”.

Successfully completing the assessment gave Michael the confidence to build his career in Australia.

Fast forward to today, Michael is a licensed electrician at Melbourne Airport and VETASSESS assessor with more than 16 years’ experience.

He plays a crucial role in evaluating the skills and qualifications of skilled migrants.

“The work we do at VETASSESS contributes directly to building Australia’s skilled workforce. I’m proud to be part of that journey.”

“Prepare your documents early, understand the requirements, and be ready to demonstrate a broad range of skills. The sooner you’re ready, the easier your transition will be.”
