VETASSESS is updating the assessment criteria for Dance Teachers (Private Tuition), Dancers or Choreographers who require a skills assessment for migration purposes.
These occupations will no longer require an AQF-level bachelor degree but will require an AQF level diploma. The Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) levels and their criteria reflect the requirements of Australia’s national qualifications framework.
In addition to the new qualification requirements, the Group C criteria for employment experience will apply.
The change will take effect from 1 October 2021.
VETASSESS consulted with Ausdance, the peak body for the dance sector in Australia and with the Department of Education, Skills and Employment, before making the changes to ensure the new criteria reflect occupational standards needed for employment in Australia.
A spokesperson for Ausdance said it was pleased to assist to ensure that assessment criteria for dancer occupations reflect current industry standards in Australia.
VETASSESS Executive Director Rob Thomason says engagement with industry peak bodies such as Ausdance assists VETASSESS to ensure that assessment criteria can be updated to reflect the skill levels required by the industry.
“The updated criteria should ensure that applicants with the relevant qualifications and work experience can get a successful skills assessment,” he said.
