We conduct skills assessments for students to submit with their Subclass 485 visa application.
We assess whether your qualification is
- At the required educational level, and
- In a highly relevant field of study to your nominated occupation.
You do not need work experience for a qualifications-only assessment to support your application for Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) visa.

Important note:
- In July 2022 the Australian Government suspended the requirement for international students to submit a skills assessment for a Subclass 485 visa. The Government has reinstated this requirement from July 1, 2023
- If you lodged an application with the Department of Home Affairs for the Graduate Work stream between 1 July 2022 and 30 June 2023 you do not need a skills assessment.
A Skills Assessment for permanent migration
Once you have sufficient work experience in your nominated occupation, as a subclass 485 visa holder you can apply to us for a Skills Assessment (qualifications and employment) to support an application to migrate permanently to Australia.
If your nominated occupation is the same as for your 485 visa
If your nominated occupation is the same as for your 485 visa, we will only need to assess evidence of your recent employment. We will not need to assess your qualification to complete the assessment.

If you change your nominated occupation
You can change your nominated occupation for a VETASSESS Skills Assessment application.
If you decide to do this, you will need to lodge a new application online and we will assess evidence of both your qualifications and employment to complete the assessment.

Important note:
If you hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher, you also have access to the Post-Study Work stream of the Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) which does not require applicants to nominate an occupation or obtain a skills assessment.
