Patient Transport Officer
Ambulance Officer is a VETASSESS Group C occupation
This occupation requires a qualification assessed as comparable to the educational level of an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Diploma or higher, in a field highly relevant to the nominated occupation.
In addition to this, applicants must have at least one year of post-qualification employment at an appropriate skill level completed in the last five years in a field which is highly relevant to the nominated occupation. If employment is not post-qualification, then three additional years of highly relevant employment are required.
If the qualification is not in a highly relevant field, two years of employment at an appropriate skill level, completed in the last five years which is highly relevant to the nominated occupation is required. This is reduced to one year if there is an additional qualification at least at AQF Certificate IV level in a highly relevant field.
A positive assessment of both qualifications and employment is required for a positive Skills Assessment Outcome.

Employment Criteria
Highly relevant tasks include, but are not limited to:
1 attending accidents, emergencies and requests for medical assistance
2 assessing health of patients, determining need for assistance, and assessing specialised needs and factors affecting patients' conditions
3 performing therapies and administering drugs according to protocol
4 resuscitating and defibrillating patients and operating life-support equipment
5 transporting accident victims to medical facilities
6 transporting sick and disabled persons to and from medical facilities for specialised treatment and rehabilitation
7 instructing community groups and essential service workers in first aid
8 attending public gatherings and sporting events where accidents and other health emergencies may occur
9 ensuring that ambulances are adequately maintained and stocked with medical supplies, and that equipment is in good working order
10 preparing written reports on the state of patients' injuries and treatment provided
Additional tasks may include
1 Attends accidents and emergencies
2 Assesses health of patients and determines need for assistance
3 Liaises with hospital staff about patients' condition
4 Provides pre-hospital care and transports patients to medical facilities
5 Resuscitates patients and operates life-support equipment
6 Administers drugs according to protocol
7 Transports sick and disabled persons to and from centres of specialised treatment or rehabilitation
8 Instructs community groups and essential service workers in first aid
9 Attends public gatherings and sporting events where accidents and other health emergencies may occur
10 May consult with medical and emergency professionals about type of care and assistance
It is essential for applicants to meet the following employment criteria:
- at least one year of post-qualification employment at an appropriate skill level,
- undertaken in the last five years,
- working 20 hours or more per week, and
- highly relevant to the nominated occupation.
If the qualification is not in a highly relevant field, then the applicant must have:
- two years of post-qualification employment experience at an appropriate skill level,
- undertaken in the last five years,
- working 20 hours or more per week, and
- highly relevant to the nominated occupation.
This is reduced to one year if there is an additional qualification at least at AQF Certificate IV level in a highly relevant field.
If employment has occurred before completion of qualification, then three years of highly relevant employment experience are required in addition to at least one year of highly relevant employment at an appropriate skill level in the last five years.
Please note in order to achieve a successful Skills Assessment Outcome, a positive assessment for both qualifications and employment is required.
