Audiologist is a VETASSESS Group A occupation

This occupation requires a qualification assessed as comparable to the educational level of an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Bachelor degree or higher, in a field highly relevant to the nominated occupation.

Applicants must also have at least one year of highly relevant, post-qualification employment, at an appropriate skill level completed in the last five years.

A positive assessment of both qualifications and employment is required for a positive Skills Assessment Outcome.

 

Group A

* Additional qualifications in a highly relevant field of study include those comparable to the following levels: 

  • AQF Diploma 
  • AQF Advanced Diploma 
  • AQF Associate Degree or 
  • AQF Graduate Diploma

** Highly relevant paid employment duration (20 hours or more per week): 

One year of post-qualification paid employment (20 hours or more per week) highly relevant to the nominated occupation, at an appropriate skill level in the last five years before the date of application for a Skills Assessment

Qualification and Employment Criteria

AQF Bachelor degree or higher degree*

* This includes qualifications assessed at AQF Bachelor, Master and Doctoral level.

This occupation requires a qualification in:

  • Audiology
  • Clinical Audiology
  • Audiology Studies

Highly relevant tasks include:

  • Assessing and diagnosing the extent of client hearing loss using a wide range of techniques, including audiometric tests;
  • Reporting results of assessments and tests in writing and making referrals to medical practitioners;
  • Recommending solutions to those with hearing impairment including amplification, implantable devices, medical interventions and assistive listening devices and providing aural rehabilitation programs;
  • Providing counselling, advice and information to clients and families as a part of overall treatment;
  • Assisting with the development and management of noise control and hearing conservation strategies.

In Australia’s primary health care system, Audiologists are the primary health practitioners for people with hearing loss and related disorders. They work with clients of all ages – from infants to older adults – and clients with complex needs. Audiologists are qualified to assess hearing and auditory function, vestibular (balance) function, tinnitus, auditory processing function, and neural function. Audiologists can do this by performing diagnostic tests, including advanced tests using electrophysiological methods.

Audiometrist is a separate occupation classified under ANZSCO code 311299 Medical Technicians nec and is not considered suitable for the occupation of Audiologist.
