This occupation requires a qualification assessed as comparable to the educational level of an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Bachelor degree or higher, in a field highly relevant to the nominated occupation.
The information below describes the available pathways for a Skills Assessment under Group A. Please note that in order to achieve a suitable Skills Assessment Outcome, a suitable assessment for both qualifications and employment is required.
Pathway 1
This pathway requires a qualification assessed as comparable to the education level of an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Bachelor degree or higher degree and in a field highly relevant to the nominated occupation.
Bachelor degree or higher degree includes AQF Master Degree or AQF Doctoral Degree.
In addition, it is essential for applicants to meet the following employment criteria:
- at least one year of post-qualification employment at an appropriate skill level, undertaken in the last five years,
- working 20 hours or more per week, and
- highly relevant to the nominated occupation.
Qualification & Employment Criteria
Qualification
There are two relevant fields of study: Curriculum Studies and Education Studies.
- Curriculum Studies is the study of developing and evaluating appropriate curricula to teach to particular groups of children and adults.
- Education Studies is the study of the theoretical background of traditional and current teaching practices.
This occupation requires a qualification assessed as comparable to the education level of an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Bachelor Degree or higher degree and in a field highly relevant to the nominated occupation.
Employment Criteria
Highly relevant tasks include, but are not limited to:
- Undertakes school reviews, teacher assessment and educational planning in primary and secondary schools
- Serves on committees to identify present and future needs within the educational system, and plan, develop and modify facilities and programs
- Documents subjects and courses developed, and evaluates new courses
- Organises and conducts workshops and conferences to train teachers in new programs and methods
- Applies knowledge of learning processes and school structures to develop operational and training programs and submits them for decision and funding
- Visits schools and observing teachers in the classroom, noting pupil response, motivation and teaching techniques
- Discusses programs, records and teachers with School Principals to record academic performance of schools, welfare of pupils and performance of individual teachers
- Makes suggestions to government officials about improvements to educational facilities, equipment, buildings and staff to ensure continued standards of education
- Observes teaching methods and examines learning materials to evaluate and standardise curricula and teaching techniques, and to determine areas where improvement is needed
- Collaborates with teachers to develop and maintain curriculum standards, develop mission statements, and set performance goals and objectives.
- Evaluates curricula, teaching methods, and programs to determine their effectiveness, efficiency, and utilisation, and to ensure that school activities comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
