Australian Technical Competencies Statement Assessment

Did you qualify as an electrician outside Australia but can’t work in the trade here because you don’t have an Australian qualification?

We can help you attain an Australian Technical Competencies Statement, a certificate that will enable you to work as an electrician in Victoria – where your skills are in demand.

What is the Australian Technical Competencies Statement?

An Australian Technical Competencies Statement (ATCS) proves you have been assessed as partially competent against the units in the Australian qualification UEE30811 Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician.

The ATCS entitles you to a Supervised Worker’s licence in Victoria once you have met the non‐skill licence requirements. This will allow you to work under the supervision of a qualified tradesperson.

You will then need to take Minimum Australian Context Gap training and a period of supervised employment to become eligible for award of the full qualification.

Who can apply?

Australian citizens and permanent residents who have completed formal training and/or employment as an electrician overseas and who require a skills assessment to obtain an electrical licence in Victoria.

To be eligible to apply, you must meet the following requirements and have official evidence to show that:

  • You are an Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • You have completed formal training as an electrician overseas and have at least 4 years full-time (or equivalent part-time) employment experience as an electrician, 12 months of which were completed within the past 3 years, OR
  • You have completed at least 6 years full-time (or equivalent part-time) employment experience as an electrician, 12 months of which were completed within the past 3 years.

What is Minimum Australian Context Gap training and where can I find it?

Minimum Australian Context Gap training covers specific Australian regulations and knowledge required to work as an electrician in Australia.
