Media Producer (excluding Video) is a VETASSESS Group A occupation

This occupation requires a qualification assessed as comparable to the educational level of an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Bachelor degree or higher, in a field highly relevant to the nominated occupation.

Applicants must also have at least one year of highly relevant, post-qualification employment, at an appropriate skill level completed in the last five years.

Applicants will not meet the required skill level if:

  • The qualification(s) are not at the required educational level.
  • The qualification(s) are not in a highly relevant field of study.
  • The employment has been completed prior to the completion of the qualification.

A positive assessment of both qualifications and employment is required for a positive Skills Assessment

Qualification & Employment Criteria

Qualification

Radio and Television Studies is a program that focuses on the theories, methods, and techniques used to plan, produce, and distribute audio and video programs and messages, and that prepares individuals to function as staff, producers, directors, and managers of radio and television shows and media organisations.

Media Studies focuses on the history, contemporary issues and theory of media and culture while developing advanced technical and conceptual skills in film and video editing, new media and sound.

Broadcast Journalism is a program that focuses on the methods and techniques for reporting, producing, and delivering news and news programs via radio, television, and video/film media; and that prepares individuals to be professional broadcast journalists, editors, producers, directors, and managers. 
Cinematography and Film Video Production is a program of study that prepares individuals to communicate dramatic information, ideas, moods, and feelings through the making and producing of films and videos.

Media Management is a program of study that prepares individuals to organize and manage operations and projects in the visual arts, performing arts, and entertainment media industries. 
 

Employment Criteria

Highly relevant tasks include, but are not limited to: 

  • Directs the formulation of media production strategies, policies and plans
  • Manages productions to meet quantity, quality, cost and timing specifications
  • Controls the use of production facilities such as studios and editing equipment, stage and film equipment and rehearsal time
  • Directs production quality control to high standards
  • Coordinates, issues and reviews production and film shooting schedules
  • Monitors production costs and cash flow, relative to budget
  • Collecting and analysing facts about events and individuals
  • Edits films and video tapes, and adds sound tracks
  • Plans, directs and co-ordinates the filming of motion picture and television programmes
  • Produces and  transmits messages and evaluates their effectiveness
  • Recording and broadcasting radio productions
  • Writing reports, commentaries and stories
     

It is essential for applicants to meet the following employment criteria:

  • at least one year of post-qualification employment at an appropriate skill level,
  • undertaken in the last five years,
  • working 20 hours or more per week, and
  • highly relevant to the nominated occupation.

Please note in order to achieve a successful Skills Assessment Outcome, a positive assessment for both qualifications and employment is required.
