Updated assessment criteria for social professionals

The Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia and VETASSESS have partnered to refine the assessment criteria for social professionals seeking an assessment for migration purposes.

VETASSESS is the assessing authority for Social Professionals nec (not elsewhere classified) who are covered by the occupation code 272499 set by the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO).

Updated assessment criteria for social professionals

The standard covers a range of specialist occupations, such as:

  • Anthropologist
  • Criminologist
  • Geographer
  • Heritage Consultant
  • Linguist
  • Parole Board Member
  • Political Scientist
  • Sociologist
  • Transport Analyst

The Academy’s Chief Executive Officer Dr Chris Hatherly says he has been very pleased to assist VETASSESS in refining the assessment criteria for Social Professionals.

“These professions and the associated research disciplines are constantly evolving with new knowledge and techniques, so it is important that such reviews are conducted periodically.

“These revised criteria now reflect current practice and understanding of these disciplines, and should be useful for skilled social professionals looking to migrate to Australia,”he said.

VETASSESS Executive Director Rob Thomason says the wide-ranging skills of Social Professionals will be needed to help in the development of Australian society and the economy in coming years.

“Our work with the Academy can give employers confidence that employees who have been through this assessment process will have the required skills for their occupation.”
